In Mallorca, the people and the place are always competing for attention. The sea, dry-stone walls, olive trees and bright light are strong enough to make a couple look small in every frame. Good wedding photography on the island keeps the two in balance: the setting is allowed to show, but it stays the backdrop for what happens between you and your guests.

My background is in people, fashion and lifestyle photography. It gives me a feel for light, posture and composition that I use with restraint at weddings. For most of the day I observe. Only during portraits do I give short, clear prompts, so nobody feels posed and the photographs still look calm and considered.

The island changes character within short distances. Inland, fincas sit among almond and olive trees, often with courtyards, stone facades and open fields that catch warm side light in the evening. Along the south and east coasts, rocky coves and pale water shape the pictures; in the north-west, the Serra de Tramuntana brings terraces, mountain roads and small villages. Palma adds old-town lanes, roof terraces and a more urban mood.

For photography, the name of a place matters less than its position: where the sun sits in the late afternoon, whether there is shade for the ceremony, and how far apart the ceremony, portrait spot and dinner are. These questions are worth asking during your first visit.

In Mallorca, the sun shapes the day far more than it does in Hamburg. In summer the midday light is hard and falls steeply from above, faces pick up deep shadows and guests quickly look for somewhere cool. That is why many couples hold the ceremony late in the afternoon and let dinner run into the sunset.

Couple portraits often need only two short, well-placed windows: a few quiet minutes straight after the ceremony and again in the last hour before sunset, when the light turns low and warm. We go through the timeline together beforehand, looking at the distance between locations, sensible buffers and the moments that matter most to you.

Palma has direct flights from many airports in the UK and Germany. From the airport, most parts of the island are roughly half an hour to a little over an hour away by car; the mountains and the north-east coast can take longer. Because many fincas are remote, it helps to arrange transfers between accommodation and venue early.

Many couples from abroad complete the legal ceremony at home and celebrate in Mallorca with a symbolic ceremony. I do not work with fixed packages. Every wedding receives an individual proposal based on format, hours and location. An elopement for two in a quiet cove needs a different scope from a weekend with several events in different parts of the island.
